Reverend John Augustine Lubey
August 1, 1916 to July 27, 1999




Father Lubey was born on August 1, 1916 in New York City. He was ordained on June 8, 1943. During his ordination, while prostrate on the floor Father prayed that, if he were not going to be the kind of priest the Lord desired him to be, the Lord not allow him to get up.

At that time, the Washington, DC area was in the Baltimore Diocese. His first assignment was as associate pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Baltimore. From there he went to Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC and then to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Takoma Park, MD. He later served as pastor of Holy Ghost Parish, Issue, MD; Sacred Heart in Bowie, MD, St. John's Parish in Clinton, MD and St. Francis Xavier Parish in Newtowne, MD. He spent most of his retired life at St. Peter's Parish in Olney, MD. In his final years, Father Lubey lived at the Cardinal O'Boyle Residence for retired priests in Washington, D.C.
